Actress Millie Bobby Brown has deleted her Twitter account over a series of homophobic memes.

The 14-year-old, who plays Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things, deleted her @milliebbrown verified account on the site after users began spreading memes and fake stories about Bobby Brown, claiming she is homophobic.

The hashtag #TakeMillieBobbyBrownDown, which first surfaced in November but has been picking up steam recently, was also tweeted.

The memes shared on the social site featured various selfies and photos of the Emmy-nominated actress with homophobic statements and slurs written over them.

One tweet reportedly featured a video of a car driving into protesters with the caption: “Millie Bobby Brown arriving at pride” while another tweet showed a photo of the actress looking out of a car window with the caption: “Looking away from all the gay f*gs xoxo”.

Reports claim the memes began as an “inside joke” among several LGBT Twitter users poking fun at people who were actually homophobic, but the memes quickly went out of hand.

Bobby Brown’s second account, @Milliestopshate, which was created last summer in order to help tackle bullying, and her Instagram account are both still active.

Meanwhile, the actress has shown support for GLAAD’s Together movement and has previously spoken against anti-bullying.

The news comes after several Star Wars fans harassed and bullied The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran off Instagram.
