Straight couple complain about gay waiter and demand a ‘non-flamboyant’ server

And his management continued to serve them

By Fabio Crispim

A waiter has claimed a straight couple complained about him and demanded a new server because of his sexuality.

Reddit user PhiPhiAokigahara made the claims on the social media website in a post that slammed his workplace for continuing to serve the pair despite their comments.

The user titled the post “We demand a new server, we don’t want this flamboyant gay one” and explained: “Yeah. That just happened last night.”

He revealed how he works at a well-known Italian chain restaurant and had greeted an older white couple on the night of the incident.

He explained: “I pleasantly collected their drink order and let them know they can take their time with the menus and to let me know when they’re ready.”

However, the couple didn’t take a liking to the waiter and instead decided to make a complaint.

He continued: “I’m in the kitchen talking to a co-worker when the host comes through: ‘PhiPhi do you have [table] 32?’ ‘Yeah, why?’ ‘Well, they want a new server… uhh it’s because you’re gay.’

“Cue my freak-out. Apparently the moment I left the table, the husband stormed to the host stand and loudly demanded a non-flamboyant gay server because ‘he’s a man of God and can’t be around that.'”

The user explained how he complained to management and urged for the guests to be removed, but they weren’t.

“My manager initially gave them a stern talking to but I guess they were so polite in response, my manager saw fit to not only give them full service but leave them in my section in plain sight of me despite my protests.”

“I was fortunate to have a regular in my section to watch the whole thing and her grandson (2) gave me a hug with so much enthusiasm while she glared down the homophobes. I spent the next hour in the back mostly in shock. Safe to say it ruined my night.”

The Reddit user revealed how he woke up to phone calls the next morning from his manager, his regular manager and the district manager who both expressed anger that the customers were given full service.

He added: “I got to listen to the manager who allowed their stay to apologise over and over again. It felt great to hear him so panicked over it all.”

According to the user, in the future patrons will be removed from the restaurant if they are make “prejudiced remarks”.
