Singer Halsey has opened up about her bisexuality in a new video.

The 23-year-old pop star discussed her experiences as a bisexual woman in a video shared on Twitter after winning the Outstanding Music Artist award at the 2018 GLAAD Media Awards.

However, because she was unable to attend, the Grammy-nominated singer shared the video which was posted on GLAAD’s Twitter on Thursday (May 10).

In it, she said: “I just found out I’ve won Outstanding Music Artist at the GLAAD Awards, which is pretty nuts because I spent the last year and the year before that working really hard to be a better representative of the LGBT community.

“I’m a young, bisexual woman, and I’ve spent a large part of my life trying to validate myself – to my friends, to my family, to myself – trying to prove that who I love and how I feel is not a phase. So I tried really hard to find the courage this year to write female pronouns into my music.”

The ‘Closer’ singer also used the moment to discuss homeless LGBT youth, saying: “It’s estimated that up to 40 percent of homeless youth are minors who are part of the LGBT community.

“Many of them have been ostracised by their families and from their communities because people don’t agree with their lifestyle. I beg you to go home and to check out your local homeless youth services and see if they offer anything targeted towards the LGBT youth.”

She added: “See how you can get involved.”

Haley’s latest album, 2017’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, features several bisexual songs, including ‘Strangers’ which Halsey sings alongside Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui.
