Seth MacFarlane deletes tweets plugging Ted 2 following equal marriage ruling

By Ryan Love

Seth MacFarlane’s attempts to promote Ted 2 as America celebrated marriage equality fell flat yesterday (June 26).

The writer and actor took to Twitter as news broke that the SCOTUS had legalized gay marriage across the country.

He wrote: “Celebrate the legalization of same-sex marriage by going to see Ted 2 as he fights for HIS rights. Because hey, if gays can get married, what’s next? People marrying their teddy bears?”

The quip was a reference to the storyline of his comedy sequel, which sees Ted and his wife take on the law in order to be allowed to adopt a child.

However, the tweet received a poor reaction and was quickly deleted. But screencaps of the message continued to circulate online, with one user writing: “You can delete your tweets, MacFarlane, but we can screencap them.”

In a number of follow-up Tweets, MacFarlane wrote: “The Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states today. IT’S ABOUT. FUCKING. TIME.

“Congratulations America for finally catching up to the modern era with this landmark step forward for gay and lesbian rights.”
