RuPaul: ‘The gay movement is eating itself’

RuPaul has claimed that the gay movement will “eat itself from the inside out”.

The Drag Race star said that the biggest threat to the gay community is not from an outside party, but from the community itself.

Asked if the gay community has lost its sense of humour to political correctness, RuPaul said: “It has. It’s funny, we all think that the Tea Party will be our undoing or the Republicans will get power again and take away the liberties we’ve all been enjoying these past few years.

“I don’t think that is going to happen. I think it will eat itself from the inside out. If you read George Orwell’s Animal Farm, that is what humans do. They start to feed on itself, like pop will eat itself. The gay movement seems to be eating itself.”

He went on to note the similarities between the gay community and the characters in Animal Farm, who “forget why there was a revolution in the first place”.

“We lose our memory,” he added.

Last week, RuPaul hit back at critics who have labelled Drag Race “transphobic”.

In April, makers LOGO TV made the decision to remove the iconic “you’ve got she-mail” phrase from future episodes, after they received complaints from viewers.
