Robbie Rogers: ‘FIFA is run by racist, sexist, homophobes’
Openly gay LA Galaxy soccer player, Robbie Rogers, has spoken out against Russia holding 2018’s World Cup due to their anti-gay laws.
Speaking recently on Chelsea Handler’s new Netflix original chat show, the 29-year-old star said he’d like to see teams boycott the next World Cup or at best, move it somewhere else.
“In a perfect world, it wouldn’t be in Russia. We’d boycott or move it somewhere else but that’s never gonna happen,” he began.
“Fifa is just as corrupt as the Olympic committee. It’s run by like these old, racist, sexist, homophobic dudes that are in charge and put their buddies in charge. There’s so much money involved, it’s pretty bad.”
The 29-year-old adds that if he head to Russia for the World Cup, he would make sure that the world knew he was present as a gay player by decorating his kit.
“If I were on the team, I’d go and I’d have some glitter and I’d just make sure people knew I was gay to just be present and to have people know… and have like a tiara.”
