Piers Morgan apologises for homophobic article branding gay ‘EastEnders’ characters ‘yuppie p**fs’
The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter wrote the hateful article while working at The Sun in the 1980s.

Piers Morgan has apologised for a historic article he wrote for The Sun in which he branded two gay EastEnders characters “yuppie poofs”.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 54, wrote on Twitter that he was “ashamed” of the “innappropriate language” he used while working for the tabloid newspaper during the 1980s.
The newly resurfaced article was penned by Morgan following EastEnders’ historic a kiss between Colin Russell (Michael Cashman) and Guido Smith (Nicholas Donovan) in January 1989 – the first same-sex mouth-to-mouth kiss ever aired on a British soap.
In his article, Morgan branded the kiss a “homosexual love scene between yuppie p***s”, before adding that it was “screened in the early evening when millions of children were watching.”
After a picture of the vile piece of the ‘journalism’ went viral, Morgan – who now uses his platform to regularly mock transgender and non-binary people – apologised directly.
“As I’ve said before, I’m ashamed of some of the inappropriate language I used in The Sun thirty years ago about gay stars”, the former News of the World editor wrote.

Of course, Morgan would do well to reflect on the language he uses when it comes to addressing transgender issues, too.
The presenter, who once mocked transgender and non-binary people by claiming he identifies as a penguin, seemingly failed to see the irony in tweeting an apology for prejudiced language while his profile picture shows his head photoshopped on to a penguin’s body.
One thing’s for sure: it seems times aren’t so different when it comes to Piers Morgan using his platform to punch down against the most marginalised members of our community.
