Olympic volunteer proposes to rugby player girlfriend in Rio – WATCH

By Will Stroude

This year’s Olympic Games has seen more out LGBT athletes competing then ever before, and love is in the air for one in particular after a rugby sevens game ended in a marriage proposal for Brazilian player Isadora Cerullo.

Isadora Cerullo was part of Brazil’s women’s rugby sevens team, who sadly missed out on the knockout rounds in the game’s inaugural year at the Olympics.

But after the medals were handed out to Australia, New Zealand and Canada, the 25-year-old’s girlfriend Marjorie Enya popped the question.

“As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special,” Enya told BBC Sport.

“I know rugby people are amazing and they would embrace it,” she added, insisting she wasn’t worried about proposing publicly.

“She is the love of my life,” she said.

The proposal comes after reports that some LGBT athletes have been targeted with homophobic abuse during the Games.

Meanwhile, gay couple Kate and Helen Richardson-Worth became the first same-sex, married couple to compete at the games together when they played as part of Team GB’s hockey team against Australia last Saturday (August).
