London’s RVT could be bought out by strip club chain

By Fabio Crispim

The Royal Vauxhall Tavern (RVT) in Vauxhall, south London has changed hands several times and is once again under threat after being put up for sale.

Amy Lamé, a comedian, co-founder of Duckie and chairman of RVT Future, announced the news in an interview with the Evening Standard. The RVT’s current owners have plans to put the pub for sale for £4.1 million.

Lamé also stated that strip club chain Spearmint Rhino are looking into buying the pub but it could mean that it could turn into an exotic dancing venue.

The RVT has been seen as a landmark for LGBT history. Sadiq Khan, who vowed to protect the site, recently hosted a Kylie Minogue fundraiser this year, Jennifer Saunders filmed scenes for the Absolutely Fabulous film and Princess Diana allegedly snuck into the pub in a drag disguise to dance with Freddie Mercury.

The pub became a Grade II listed building last year after Sir Ian McKellen and Paul O’Grady backed it. The status means the venue cannot be altered or destroyed without permission.
