Brazil’s right-wing, homophobic president Jair Bolsonaro has insisted he doesn’t want his country to become a ‘gay tourism paradise’.
In the past, Bolsonaro made numerous homophobic and racist comments and has been described as Brazil’s Donald Trump and back in 2015, he said that blood transfusion patients should be allowed to reject blood if it came from a gay person.
During a 2011 interview with Playboy, Bolsonaro said he’d be incapable of loving a gay son and would prefer that son to “die in an accident” and it seems his anti-gay tirade isn’t slowing down,
According to Crusoe magazine, the president outrageously said that he doesn’t want Brazil to become ‘gay tourism’ but welcomed heterosexual couples and singletons.
He said: “If you want to come here and have sex with a woman, go for your life.
“Brazil can’t be a country of the gay world, of gay tourism. We have families.”
Following his comments, Bolsonaro has faced backlash from the LGBTQ community in Brazil with out Rio de Janeiro councillor David Miranda telling The Guardian he is ‘staining the image’ of the country.
He said: “This is not a head of state – this is a national disgrace.
“He is staining the image of our country in every imaginable way.”
