is tipped to re-enter the charts following a UKIP councillor’s comments that the recent floods were caused by the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

The campaign – which has attracted over 8,000 likes on Facebook – hopes to get The Weather Girls’ (not Geri Halliwell’s) rendition of the song to the top of the charts next week.

UKIP councillor David Silvester wrote to his local paper, saying he warned David Cameron that gay marriage would “result in disaster”. He was later suspended over his remarks.

The organisers of the campaign told The Sun: “For decades now, this song has been used as a gay anthem. We thought it fitted all the better based on UKIP’s comments regarding storms and floods being caused by LGBT people and gay marriage. We believe that the show of strength to get a song to number one will create a huge spotlight on our campaign for equality as a whole. The song, if you like, is our catalyst and part of the bigger message.”

The campaign urges the public to purchase the track from Sunday (January 26) to try to get it to number one when the UK’s Official Singles Chart is announced on February 2.
