Gay couple claim they were attacked by ‘off-duty’ police officers

A couple claim they were attacked by a group of men who said they were police officers, in South End, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Kenny Coppedge and his boyfriend Jordan Frye were walking home over the weekend when a group came up behind him and a woman put her arm around him.
However, after a few moments, the men accused the couple of stealing from her purse and began attacking them.
While speaking to Fox 46 Charlotte, Coppedge said: “They accused me of stealing from her, put my arm around my back and threw me to the ground and started searching me and telling me he was a cop.
“They just kept telling me that they were cops. They were cops and they were going to keep me there until they proved I didn’t steal anything.”
When the actual police arrived, Coppedge claimed the men spoke to the officers before being allowed to leave.
The victim and his partner claim they were attacked by off-duty police officers who said they were from New Jersey and Coppedge has called for them to be charged.
He continued: “The way they were manoeuvring us and the way that they pinned us down, it was like they were trained to do that.
“I want them to be charged.”
