Eric Trump praises his fathers support of the LGBT community

By Fabio Crispim

Eric Trump believes that his father’s support of the LGBT community is “revolutionary”.

Speaking with CNBC’s Squawk Box Eric argued that his father, presidential nominee Donald Trump, has pushed the Republican Party to be more inclusive.

In the interview, Eric refers to Peter Thiel who was the first openly gay speaker at the RNC in 16 years. Eric said:

“We had a gay man speak at the RNC and my father spent a lot of his time talking about the LGBT community. That is revolutionary for the Republican Party.”

According to the Advocate, Eric credited his father for the history-making moment, saying:

“There’s a lot of things he’s doing very differently. There’s a lot of beliefs that he has. I think the Republican Party has almost become an ‘American First Party’ because that’s really his message.”

Also during the RNC, Donald Trump vowed to “Protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology.”

The statement was met with applause which appeared to shock Donald Trump who then said, “I have to say, as a Republican, it is so nice to hear you cheering for what I just said.”
