Chelsea Manning faces solitary confinement for Caitlyn Jenner mag

Convicted US transgender prisoner Chelsea Manning faces indefinite solitary confinement for having a copy of the Caitlyn Jenner issue of Vanity Fair.
The US Army private whistleblower was convicted and jailed in 2013 for espionage pertaining to over 700,000 US Army classified document leaks she published to WikiLeaks while serving in Iraq.
Manning is currently serving a 35-year sentence at the Fort Leavenworth military prison, Kansas, for leaking reams of war logs, diplomatic cables and battlefield video to the controversial website.
Prison authorities have also accused Manning of having an expired tube of toothpaste, acting in a disorderly manner for sweeping food onto the floor, and treating correctional staff disrespectfully, The Mirror reports.
Manning’s lawyer Nancy Hollander said a closed three-person panel hearing has been scheduled at the Fort Leavenworth prison for August 18, although a public hearing had been requested.
“This is like prison disciplinary infractions in a civilian prison and there will be a hearing, but frankly it looks to me like harassment,” said Hollander.
All charges relate to alleged conduct on July 2 and 9.
The maximum penalty Manning faces is indefinite solitary confinement.
A petition which calls for authorities to not proceed with prosecuting Manning has been established online.
