Californian school principle: Two prom queens isn’t fair on the boys

By Fabio Crispim

Foothill High School in Palo Cedro, California has come under fire for refusing to allow a lesbian couple to become prom queens because it isn’t “fair on the boys.”

According to Advocate, Haley Lack and her girlfriend were nominated to be prom king and queen alongside two other two heterosexual couples.

The school didn’t take the nomination and students now believe the school took the wrong decision.

Haley said, “The students and myself believe that there was equal opportunity for both males and female because every senior had the ability to be nominated.”

A petition, ‘Equality for Same Sex Couples at Foothill High School’, was launched and has received support from other schools in the area as well as amassing over 100 signatures.

Principle of the school, Jim Bartow, said that the girls are both able to run separately, “but we don’t nominate as couples.”

Haley added that, “It is by popular vote of the student body, if they vote to have two girls for king and queen, then how is that not equal? The boys had an equal opportunity to win.”

Haley posted a clip of herself explaining the situation, you can watch it below:
