Boy George says he believes Lewis Hamilton should be given a “break” after the Formula One racing driver publicly shamed his young nephew for wearing a princess dress on Christmas Day.

The former Culture Club singer, 56, said that the reaction to Hamilton’s comments that “Boys don’t wear princess dresses” had been “overly dramatic.”

Boy George tweeted on Wednesday (December 27): “Let’s all give @LewisHamilton a break now. Far worse is said everyday by far worse people with far less style!

The ‘Karma Chameleon’ added: “People make mistakes and that’s how they learn!”

Responding to a fan who replied that Hamilton had brought “shame” to the racing community, Boy George said: “I feel the reaction is quite overly dramatic and I’m the queen of ‘princess dresses’.”

32-year-old Hamilton sparked a furious backlash earlier this week after confronting his young nephew over his choice of outfit in a now-deleted Instagram video.

The four-time World Championship-winning driver later tweeted an apology, but doubt was quickly cast on its sincereity after it emerged that the star had been ‘liking’ tweets from fans declaring he had done “nothing wrong.”
