Ben & Jerry’s create Aussie phone box in support of gay marriage

A phone box designed to allow people to show their support for same-sex marriage will be available for use during a Mardi Gras event in Australia.
The #EqualityCalling phone box – created by ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s and LGBT group Australian Marriage Equality – will allow people to step into a rainbow-styled phone box and record a message in support of gay marriage that will automatically be send to their respective local MPs.
A spokesperson for Ben & Jerry’s Australia said they have created the phonebox because same-sex marriage is an issue that “embodies their core values” as a brand.
“We’re immensely proud to support an issue that embodies so many of our core values,” said the spokesperson. “We believe that everyone in a loving relationship should be able to celebrate their commitment to each other in marriage, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.”
Despite a poll commissioned by Australian Marriage Equality in July 2014 finding that a whopping 72% of Australians support same-sex marriage, current Prime Minister Tony Abbot has remained vocal about his belief that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.
