Barbra Streisand accepts medal from Obama – then slams Trump

By Attitude Magazine

Barbara Streisand was honoured with the Presidential Medal of Freedom award by President Barack Obama this week, joining sixteen other winners including Steven Spielberg and Gloria Estefan who have made an impact in fields including charity, politics, entertainment, sport.

Awarding her the medal, Obama noted that Streisand “has collected just about every honor and award that there is – I couldn’t believe she hadn’t gotten this one. Off the stage, she has been a passionate advocate for issues like heart disease and women’s equality. I’m getting all verklempt just thinking about it.”

After her win, Streisand, a staunch Democrat supporter, spoke to a reporter from ABC about Obama – who she described as “so eloquent, dignified and smart” – and the very real threat that Donald Trump could be the next President of the United States of America – or at the very least, the Republican nominee.

Asked what she would’ve done had it been Trump putting the medal around her neck, Streisand said “I probably would’ve choked. It’s terrifyingly scary, but it’s funny. But scary.”

“I want Hillary Clinton to be president. We need a woman president, we need compassion, we need to have a person who comes from the heart and the brain and experience. Experience counts.”

Asked what she’d make of Hilary going head-to-head with Trump in televised debates, she laughed and said “It would be one of the greatest moments in television history. Everybody would watch, don’t you think? I can’t even imagine. I mean, I’m not worried about her.

Streisand’s public dig at Trump comes in the same week that he’s received universal criticism for mocking a reporter’s disability during a speech – and when another politically outspoken diva, Cher, took to Twitter to deliver just the latest in a long line of put-downs aimed at Trump.
