Apple join the fight for equal marriage in Australia

By Will Stroude

Tech giant Apple have added their logo to the Australian Equal Marriage website, joining other well known brands such as Adobe, Durex and PayPal.

“Apple believes all people should be treated equally,” the company said in a statement. “That’s why we think all Australians should be able to marry the person they love.”

Australia’s socially conservative Liberal Party are currently considering calling a referendum on the issue of equal marriage. However this suggestion has been heavily criticised by the Australian Labor Party, who have described it as a “taxpayer-funded platform for homophobia”.

Apple are just one of a number of technology companies that have supported LGBT rights in Australia, with Facebook, Google, Twitter and others sponsoring Sydney’s 2016 Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade.
