BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills has been dismissed following allegations relating to “personal conduct”.

Mills, who took over the Radio 2 Breakfast Show in early 2025, last presented his programme on 24 March. He signed off that morning as usual, telling listeners he would return the following day, but did not appear on air again.

In a brief statement, the BBC said: “Scott Mills is no longer working for the BBC. We take these matters seriously and will not be commenting further.”

“Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too” – Lorna Clarke, director of music at the BBC, on Mills’s dismissal

An internal email, sent by Lorna Clarke, director of music at the BBC, read: “I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock.

“Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV.

“I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.

“Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too. I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I’m able to. While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now.”

Who is Scott Mills?

Mills joined the BBC in 1998 and spent more than two decades at Radio 1, where he hosted The Scott Mills Show and became one of the station’s most recognisable voices. He later moved to Radio 2, taking on high-profile slots including Eurovision coverage before being appointed as host of the network’s breakfast programme.

His departure leaves a vacancy at the top of Radio 2’s schedule. Veteran presenter Gary Davies has stepped in as an interim host while the BBC considers a permanent replacement.

The BBC has not indicated whether any investigation is ongoing. Attitude has contacted Mills’s representatives for comment.
