Zac Efron and Chris Hemsworth paint their nails for a campaign on awareness of sexual violence

By Darren Mew

A new campaign has began which aims to raise awareness on sexual and physical abuse, and has been back by a number of male celebrities.

‘Polished Man’ is run by Australian NGO YGAP, and asks men to paint one nail in nail polish. From this it is hoped that the brightly coloured nail will start a conversation about the awareness of violence against children, saying “we’re asking men to lead the way, to start conversations and challenge the culture from where they stand.”

So far celebrities like Zac Efron, Chris Hemsworth, Liam Hemsworth and Tyler Blackburn have all painted a nail for the cause.

Quoting the World Health Organisation on their site, they say one in five children have experienced a form of violence, amounting to around 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 being effected.

On their website they say: “Being a Polished Man means you don’t turn your back on the vulnerable. You raise your voice – and nail – to say, “not on my watch”

“You embrace the smirks and know it doesn’t matter; there are worse things than being embarrassed by a little mani.”
