Xavier Dolan’s new film ‘It’s Only the End of the World’ gets new UK poster – exclusive

By Will Stroude

As Xavier Dolan gears up to release his sixth feature-length film It’s Only the End of the World in the UK, we’ve got an exclusive look at the French-Canadian drama film’s new UK poster.

Actor, writer and director Dolan burst onto the scene with 2009’s gay coming-of-age film I Killed My Mother, and the 27-year-old’s latest film stars a host of A-list stars including Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), Marion Cotillard (Inception) and Léa Seydoux (Spectre).

Adapted from a play by Jean-Luc Lagarce,  It’s Only the End of the World explores the complicated relationships within family dynamics, following the story of writer Louis (Gaspard Ulliel), who returns to his hometown after a 12-year absence to break the news of his terminal illness to his family.

The film is adapted from the play ‘Just la fin due Monde’ by French playwright Jean-Luc Lagrace, who died ion 1995 at aged 38 from an AIDS-related illness.

Last year, Dolan hit back at criticism he’s faced for not specifying the nature of the central character’s illness in the film despite Lagrace’s backstory.

He told The Cinema Show: “I know people were anxious to know why the lead character had left home years ago without ever coming back. I never said whether he was dying of AIDS or cancer or what it was exactly that he was dying from.

“Does it really matter? I think what matters is what these people have to say to one another in this amount of time, the time that they have together which is five or six hours, tops.”

It’s Only the End of the World is in cinemas and Curzon Home Cinema 24 FebruaryCheck out the trailer below:
