Watch the emotionally-charged trailer for Looking: The Movie

By Will Stroude

After months of anticipation, the first trailer for Looking’s feature-length finale has arrived.

Looking: The Movie sees Patrick (Jonathan Groff) return to San Francisco after almost a year away for a wedding (we’re left guessing as to exactly who is tying the knot), where he finally begins to work through his baggage as he encounters former lovers Richie (Raúl Castillo) and Kevin (Russell Tovey).

However it works out, it seems we’ll finally get some much-needed closure to the series, which ran for two seasons on HBO before being cancelled last year. And another thing – is that a potential hook-up between Patrick and best friend Dom (Murray Bartlett) we see?

Looking: The Movie airs July 23 on HBO in the US, and while there’s no word yet on a UK air date yet, the film is likely to be broadcast on Sky Atlantic, which was the show’s British home for its initial run between 2014-2015.

Show star Russell Tovey previously confirmed after his initial read of the script that “lucky” viewers were in for a treat for the film – while earlier his year Jonathan Groff revealed exactly what sex acts he’s been filming for the finale.

HBO president Michael Lombardo previously admitted the decision to axe Looking at the conclusion of season two “very painful” on a “personal level”.

He explained: “I thought the show, creatively, was really doing something that I hadn’t seen on any other show, particularly dealing with gay lives.

“As a gay man, in particular, I was very proud that there was a show that felt like it was dealing very honestly and openly with gay men and their lives, without putting them into a comedic mode.”

Looking: The Movie airs in the US on July 23 at 10pm on HBO.
