Watch Sugababes’ Amelle’s debut solo video

By Josh Haggis

Amelle

Amelle Berrabah has debuted the video for her debut solo single, Summertime.

The promo clip for the summery pop track finds the former Sugababe singing and dancing in a cornfield. Berrabah released the video last night (August 9) shortly after making her first appearance on the BBC’s new celebrity gymnastics competition Tumble.

The track is the former Sugababe’s first completely solo offering, after she appeared as a featured artist on Tinchy Stryder’s Number One single Never Leave You in 2009 and last year’s Love (Is All We Need) by DJ Adam.

The singer discussed the single during a recent chat with attitude.co.uk, saying: “It’s just a really feel-good track. The best reference I could give artist-wise is probably Bruno Mars’ Lazy Song; it’s got that soulfulness to it but also a reggae-ness to it.”

Her band Sugababes have not released any new material since 2011’s promotional single Freedom. While no official break-up announcement has ever been made, fellow member Jade Ewen admitted last year (2013) that the group was “over” and that she didn’t feel “comfortable” lying about their status.

Consequently, Berrabah told attitude.co.uk last week (August 1) that she would be happy for MKS – the group which features original Sugababes members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy – to reclaim the name provided that the group’s more recent lineup doesn’t need it again. Read more of Berrabah’s thoughts on MKS here.

Summertime will be released on September 7 in the UK. Watch the video below:
