Watch Henry Golding in the first trailer for new gay drama ‘Monsoon’

The 'Crazy Rich Asians' star is looking for love - and himself - in the new film from 'Lilting' director Hong Khaou.

By Will Stroude

If Henry Golding hadn’t already cemented a place in your heart with his recent turns in Crazy Rich Asians and Last Christmas, the British screen star is set to do the business with his latest role.

Monsoon, which is written and directed by Hong Khaou (director of 2014’s acclaimed Lilting), sees 33-year-old Golding play Kit, a Vietnam-born Brit who returns to the country of his birth to find himself, and finding love along the way.

A synopsis for the film, which has just launched its first trailer, reads: “Monsoon is a rich and poignant reflection on the struggle for identity in a place where the past weighs heavily on the present.

“Kit (Henry Golding, Crazy Rich Asians) returns to Ho Chi Minh City for the first time since he was six years old when his family fled the country in the aftermath of the Vietnam-American war.

“Struggling to make sense of himself in a city he’s no longer familiar with, he embarks on a personal journey across the country that opens up the possibility for friendship, love, and happiness.”

As the film industry continues to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, there’s no exact release date of Monsoon just yet – but on the basis of what we’ve seen so far, we hope it’s sooner tahter than later.
