Classic comedy Golden Girls is coming to Disney+ this year, it has been announced.

The Emmy Award-winning show, which starred living legend Betty White, follows four elderly women living in a house share in Miami. It originally aired on NBC and ran for 180 episodes from 1985 to 1992.

Disney+ EMEA senior vice president Luke Bradley-Jones confirmed the news yesterday, while speaking at a press event to celebrate the service’s new adult-focused ‘Star’ platform in Europe

“Every ever episode”

Bradley-Jones said he’s been “working hard” on the move, adding: “I can’t give you the exact date, but coming this summer you’ll have every season of The Golden Girls, every ever episode of The Golden Girls, available on Disney+.”

The show starred White as Rose Nylund, Rue McClanhan as Blanche, Estelle Getty as Sophia and Beatrice Arthur as Dorothy.

White is the only surviving member of the core four cast, and celebrated her 99th birthday on 17 January 2021.

McClanhan died in 2010 at the age of 76, while Getty died in 2008 at the age of 84 and Arthur died in 2009 at the age of 86.

Also arriving on Disney+ – albeit on the 23 February, when Star launches – is LGBTQ-themed show Love, Victor.

Attitude recently caught up with its lead star Michael Cimino, who told us he’s received “homophobic messages” from people he knows since taking the role.
