The first trailer for the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel has finally arrived.

The surprise clip aired during the 90th Academy Awards last night (March 4) and gave viewers a first glimpse of Emily Blunt as the British nanny.

Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel to the classic Disney movie and will feature grown-up versions of Jane and Michael Banks, the children Poppins looked after in the original film.

Emily Mortimer and Ben Wishaww will play the grown-up children while Dick Van Dyke, who played Bert and Mr Dawes Senior in the original film, will make a cameo appearance as Mr Dawes Junior, Seniors’ son.

Colin Firth has been cast as William Weatherall Wilkins and Lin-Manuel Miranda will star as the new lamplighter Jack. Actress Meryl Streep has also been confirmed to star in the film as Poppins’ cousin Topsy, a supporting role that wasn’t featured in the original 1964 film.

Julie Andrews was asked to make a cameo in the film, but turned the offer down because she wanted it to be “Emily’s show”.

The trailer sees Poppins floating down from the London skies before greeting the Banks children and adjusting her iconic overcoat in the mirror.

Mary Poppins Returns, directed by Rob Marshall, is set to take place in Depression-era London, 20 years after the original film, and follows the now grown-up Banks children who are visited by Poppins after a personal loss.

Mary Poppins Returns will hit UK cinemas in December 2018.
