Shane Richie was reportedly cut from a Children in Need quiz on Friday (November 14) after offending members of S Club 7.

The EastEnders actor was getting into a lift with Jo O’Meara, Hannah Spearritt and Tina Barrett when he made a ‘gay’ joke, a source told The Sun.

As the group entered the lift, Ritchie reportedly said to the trio: “Hurry up! Last person in is a gay!”

The source explained that S Club 7 had been due to take part in a Children in Need quiz with Richie, but that they were unwilling to appear with him after the remark, resulting in the actor being cut from the rest of the programme.

However, the source added that Ritchie hadn’t meant to use the term as insult, adding: “The comments were clearly meant as a joke. To suggest he intended any offence couldn’t be further from the truth.”

S Club 7 performed together for the first time in over a decade on Friday’s Children in Need telethon – watch their performance here.

Earlier today (November 17), the seven-piece announced that they will embark on a reunion tour in 2015, with a show at London’s O2 Arena scheduled for May 16 – read the full story here.
