‘Scream 5’: Courtney Cox to return as Gale Weathers

The return of the baby bangs remains TBC.

Horror fans, rejoice, because Scream legend Courtney Cox is officially set to reprise her iconic role as Gale Weathers in Scream 5.

Cox, 56, confirmed her return to the franchise on Instagram over the weekend, sharing a clip of the legendary Ghostface killer mask set to some appropriately eerie music.

The Friends actress made her debut as bitchy, ambitious, and instantly camp TV reporter Gale in 1996’s Scream, before returning for sequels Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000) and Scream 4 (2011).

Scream 5 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett celebrated Cox’s return in a statement from their company Radio Silence, writing: ” “We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney.

“We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!”

Scream 5, which is reportedly due to begin filming in North Carolina later this year ahead of a 2021 release, will also see the return of Cox’s ex-husband David Arquette as Gale’s onscreen husband Dewey Riley.

The pair began dating in the late ’90s after meeting on the set of the original film, marrying in 1999 and later separating in 2010.

Scream star Neve Campbell is also reportedly in talks to join Scream 5 for a fifth outing as Sidney Prescott, aka horror’s most enduringly traumatised Final Girl.
