Sarah Paulson has revealed whether she’d return to American Horror Story.

The current season of Ryan Murphy’s hit anthology series has seen franchise mainstays Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters both stepping away from the franchise for the first time in nine seasons.

And although ruling out a cameo, Paulson has revealed whether she would ever return to the anthology series.

While speaking to Variety, the actress said: “I think the star of American Horror Story is American Horror Story itself.

“The show is the thing and I think you can get a whole different group of actors and people will still watch it.

“I think that’s the extraordinary thing that Ryan created, and I would love to be a part of it.

“One time, I said I’d like it to be vampires in space when I’m 99 and I hope the show is still going then.”

Paulson also discussed the reaction behind the anthology format and said people ‘freaked out’ at first because they became so invested in the characters.

She continued: “I think audiences freaked out. They had become really attached to the characters that they loved, and they didn’t want to see those same actors playing different people.

“Then very quickly, they started to get into it, and I think they loved to see what their favourite actors were going to be doing next year.”

American Horror Story: 1984 is currently airing in both the US and the UK and has received mixed reviews from audiences.

And last week, it was revealed that the ninth season will be the shortest in the franchise’s history.
