Sam Smith has announced the release date of their brand new single, ‘To Die For’.

The Grammy Award-winning singer and former Attitude cover star, 27, confirmed on Monday (10 February) that they’d be dropping the track – a heartfelt ballad co-produced by Jimmy Napes and Stargate – this Friday (14 February), to coincide with Valentine’s Day.

‘To Die For’, which is dedicated to “all the lonely hearts out there”, looks set to add another weepy to Sam’s stellar back catalogue, with soaring strings, mellow piano, and even a sample from 2001’s cult film drama Donnie Darko.

“Releasing this song is going to be a wild one – I feel like it’s from one of the deepest parts of me” the winner of Attitude’s Person of the Year Award 2019 said in a statement.

“I wrote this with Jimmy Napes and Stargate in LA during a time of self-discovery and heartbreak.”

Sam, who identifies as non-binary, added: “This is for all the lonely hearts out there on another Valentine’s Day.”

‘To Die For’ follows the release of recent singles ‘Dancing with a Stranger’, ‘How Do You Sleep’ and a cover of Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’. Could an album be imminent?
