‘RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race’ gets first trailer and premiere date

Legendary queens including Alyssa Ewards, Trixie Mattel and Miss Vanjie are returning for the special edition series.

It’s hard to believe just a few short months ago there were grumbles about the amount of Drag Race being created, because with a stellar season 12 (Sherry Pie scandal aside) and a world on lockdown, we don’t know what we’d be doing without it right now.

Hurtling into the mix is the show’s lastest spin-off series, RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race, which is set to premiere on VH1 in the US on Friday 24 May.

Airing immediately after episodes of season 12, each instalment of the four-part series will see three celebrities unleash their inner queen, with some help from past Drag Race legends.

There’s no confirmed UK premiere date yet, but with season 12 airing weekly on Netlfix, we’d hope the streaming giant will be chomping at the bit to secure the celebrity edition.

While the identities of the celebrities are being kepy under wraps for now (and possibly for the duration of the show, a la The Masked Singer), we do know that the ‘Queen Supremes’ helping their transformations will include Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.

The winner of each episode will be crowned ‘America’s Next Celebrity Drag Race Superstar’ and win some ‘dollahs’ for a charity of their choice, so expect the competition to be fierce.

RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race is a blast,” Ru tells Variety. “We put these celebrities through it! Because no matter how famous your charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent is, you still put your pantyhose on one leg at a time.”
