American Horror Story‘s Sarah Paulson and Ryan Murphy are reuniting once again for another devilish Netflix drama: Ratched.

The eight-part series – set to premiere on the streaming service on Friday 18 September – tells the dark origins story of Nurse Ratched, the famed antagonist from Ken Kesey’s classic 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Now, Netflix has given us our first look at the eagerly-anticpated series, which also stars Finn Wittrock, Cynthia Nixon, Charlie Carver and the legendary Sharon Stone (who interviews star of Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, Jake Picking, in the Attitude August issue).

A synopsis for Ratched, which is planned to air as two limited series, reads: “In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind.

“On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.”

Ratched premieres on Netflix on 18 September. Check out more first look images below:
