Queer Eye’s fashion expert has revealed why he almost didn’t join the show.
The Netflix reboot of Bravo reality show Queer Eye For the Straight Guy, which aired for five seasons between 2003-07, has quickly become one of the most talked-about shows of 2018 and a second season is set to premiere within the coming weeks.
However, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tan France reveals he had worries about joining the show.
France, an openly gay Muslim who lives with his husband in Salt Lake City, said: “I felt a lot of pressure. I hadn’t seen any people like me on TV before, and I definitely didn’t want to be the first one.
“I didn’t want that responsibility on my head,” he added.
However, France eventually got over his fear and agreed to do the show, revealing he “couldn’t be more grateful” about it.
France, who previously said he sometimes hides his sexuality when travelling abroad, also revealed he’s received praise from people in the Middle East for his role on the show, leading him to realise that Queer Eye “isn’t just a TV show; this is so much more than that for so many people.”
Meanwhile, Karamo, Antoni, Bobby and Tan stopped by the Loose Women studios this week where they discussed the upcoming season and gave former Eastenders actor Shaun Williamson a makeover.
