Perez Hilton called out on BBC World News for ‘bullying’ Britney Spears in heated clip

Gossip blogger branded "savage" and "an out and out bully".

By Jamie Tabberer

Perez Hilton has been called out on BBC World News for “bullying” Britney Spears in the 00s.

And to be fair to the gossip blogger, he at least doesn’t deny it.

In a heated video circulating on social media, the star addresses the subject in a video link interview.

“You talked about her shameful behaviour, you accused her of being an embarrassment”

“You were being a bully in a way they [celebrities] were not,” the anchor tells the 42-year-old.

“They were living their lives in public, wanted positive publicity. They would play games with the media, I get all of that. And you were part of the media that played games with them. But you went much further. You became that out and out bully.

“Let’s look at a specific example. Britney Spears. Whom you hounded during that period, 2006/7, when she was clearly, deeply mentally unwell. You talked about her shameful behaviour, you accused her of being an embarrassment.

“You were savage on a woman who was frankly having a mental breakdown in public.”

Perez responds: “I was, and I fully own that. I’ve also apologised many times, both publicly and privately. And I understand, nobody has to forgive me, and most people won’t.

“I wish I could go back in time and do things differently for many reasons. You may not believe me but I now see. I did not see the damage I was causing. Even if I heard it or did become aware of it, I chose not to. I was drinking the Kool-Aid, as the expression goes. I was in my own bubble. I was so high off of all of this that I didn’t care. It was reckless disregard, and dangerous. And it became worse and worse.”

Perez, who is gay, recently made headlines for saying he hopes his son grows up straight and that singer John Mayer once told him Brent Corrigan is his favourite gay porn star.
