Patrick Dempsey ‘in final negotiations’ for Bridget Jones’s Baby

Patrick Dempsey is reportedly being lined up to star in the upcoming Bridget Jones sequel, in his first major film role since his shock exit from Grey’s Anatomy earlier this year.

According to Deadline, Dempsey is in final negotiations to play an as-yet-undisclosed role in the upcoming third Bridget Jones installment, which currently has a working title of Bridget Jones’s Baby.

The eagerly-anticipated sequel will see Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth reprise their respective roles as hapless Bridget and her haughty love interest Mark Darcy, but Hugh Grant will not be returning as smarmy Daniel Cleaver, leaving open the possibly that Dempsey could play the third side of any potential love triangle…

Plot details for Bridget Jones’s Baby are being kept under wraps, but given the title, it’s seems a fair bet that Bridge is going to be expecting. The film is believed to be based on a series of newspaper columns written by series creator Helen Fielding, and not on the the third official novel, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which was published in 2013 and saw Bridget living as a single mother following the death of Mark Darcy.

Director Sharon Maguire, who helmed the original Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001, has returned for the latest outing, which is due to go into production in the UK on October 2. And with Dr McDreamy apparently involved too, we’re already counting down the days to release like…
