Olly Alexander and Neil Amin-Smith share on-stage kiss

By Shaun Kitchener

Same-sex popstar-on-popstar romances haven’t been that visible since the time Bossy-era Lindsay Lohan dated Samantha Ronson.

But Olly Alexander and Neil Amin-Smith are comfortably becoming the industry’s greatest power couple – Taylor and Calvin be damned – as proven by a sweet PDA moment during a festival over the weekend.

Milan’s band Clean Bandit were on the line-up directly after Alexander’s Years & Years, and while the Rather Be chart-toppers were mid-set it seems Alexander shouted: “I hear Clean Bandit have a hot violinist.”

It wasn’t long before he was then on-stage himself, helping Clean Bandit finish their set and sharing a kiss with his boyfriend to huge cheers from the crowd – as seen in the Instagram video above.

Visibility has been high on the couple’s agenda, with Neil telling Capital FM earlier in the summer: “It’s good to share. It’s important for people to see that you can be happy as a young gay couple. I would’ve loved to have seen one [growing up].”

He explained in a later interview that their hectic careers mean they have to make the most of the romantic opportunities when they get them, saying: “Olly and I are romantic with each other, we have to because we don’t see each other very much so when we are reunited it’s always quite intense.”

Elsewhere, it’s hoped that Olly will be making sweet music with another rising star (albeit literal music, in this case): Troye Sivan, whose request for a duet prompted the King singer to suggest a Brandy and Monica The Boy Is Mine-style collaboration. Needs. To. Happen.
