Nick Jonas explains why he decided to cancel his North Carolina shows
After planning to perform in North Carolina, Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato made the decision last month to cancel both shows in the state.
The decision to pull out was made in response to North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law, which prevents transgender men and women from using bathrooms that are aligned with the gender they identify as.

Yesterday, Nick appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and spoke out about why he decided to take such a drastic step in protest at the decision, and reaffirmed his support for the LGBT community.
“It’s an incredibly frustrating situation overall,” Nick told Ellen. “We are very aware of our strong LGBT community fanbase and the support they’ve given us and the support we want to give them.”
He went on to say: “This was a time where I feel like we said we have to make a bold statement, put our foot down and stand firm in something we believe in and it’s unfortunate for the fans there and for us because we want to go play as many shows as possible.”
