Netflix orders eight-part series about gay man living with cerebral palsy
'Special' is based around Ryan O'Connell's part-memoir, part-manifesto ‘I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves’

A Netflix series Special will tell the story of a gay man living with cerebral palsy.
Based around Ryan O’Connell’s part-memoir, part-manifesto ‘I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves’, will run for eight episodes on the streaming giant and the comedy is set to be produced by Jim Parson’s company, That’s Wonderful Productions.
Set to premiere on April 12, the show – which also stars O’Connell – is loosely based on his own upbringing and experiences as a gay man living with cerebral palsy, Deadline reported.
It follows a man with mild cerebral palsy who decides to rewrite his identity as a victim of an accident and goes after the life he wants.
O’Connell will star alongside Jessica Hecht, Punam Patel, Marla Mindelle, Augustus Prew and Patrick Fabien.
On Instagram, the author posted an image of the cast and wrote: “Last day of post with these angels!!! Special is 100% done and cumming 2 u soon.”

O’Connell took to Twitter after the news broke and wrote: “Special comes out April 12th on Netflix. Critics are already calling it “gay” and “disabled” so you know it must be good!”
