Netflix is launching a new LGBTQ podcast called The Gay Agenda (TGA), which will look at LGBTQ high-flyers in the entertainment industry.

TGA will be hosted by stars of Showtime’s series Yellowjacket, the lesbian actress, singer/songwriter, and podcaster Jasmin Savoy Brown, and producer and non-binary actor, comic, and playwright Liv Hewson.

The streaming giant aims for the podcast to celebrate LGBTQ success “through a loving and humorous lens.”

“It’s joyful, it’s inquisitive, it’s welcoming”

Speaking of the announcement, as reported first by Variety on Tuesday 4 January, Jasmin Savoy Brown says “It’s joyful, it’s inquisitive, it’s welcoming. I think it’s a real reflection of the LGBTQ+ community and I hope our listeners feel the same.”

Her co-host, Li Hewson adds that “there’s room for all of it, for connection and healing and for irreverence and silliness. It’s serious and it isn’t. We contain multitudes! Part of the impetus behind this podcast was creating a space to talk about being LGBTQ in entertainment that centered on something other than pain.

“The pain is there of course, but the joy is too! We want to live in joy,” they continue.

Among the guests on TGA‘s first series are director, writer, actor Natalie Morales. In a trailer for the podcast, Natalie can be heard saying: “I guess I identify as an old typewriter,” before clarifying that it’s a dusty, but tired typewriter.

Netflix’s LGBTQ content arm, Most, will produce the podcast, which launches on 10 January.

Gabrielle Korn, Most’s editorial and publishing manager says of the streaming giant’s venture that it’s part of a “new era” for Most “where the gay agenda continues to expand into all corners of our audience’s lives, making it easier and more fun than ever to discover Netflix’s LGBTQ+ talent, titles, and storytelling”.

She goes on to say, “I love this podcast so much; it’s truly a joy to listen to, and I hope it brings that same joy to our followers.”
