‘Neighbours’ newcomer to struggle with his sexuality

By Will Stroude

Neighbours are set to introduce twins David and Leo Tanaka to UK screens next week, and according to Digital Spy, one brother will face inner conflict as he struggles with his sexuality.

David, who has been described as a “medical doctor with a social conscience” is set to face hurdles as he grapples with his identity – and will throw himself into his career to avoid dealing with the pressure he feels over who he is supposed to be.

“David is really struggling to come to terms with his sexuality – he feels a lot of pressure from different people in terms of who or what he should be,” explained Takaya Honda, who will play David in the Australian soap.

“In reality, he doesn’t quite understand who he is or what he is attracted to. He thinks he’s meant to fancy girls, but it’s never really worked out with them in the past.

“So instead he is focusing on being the best doctor he can be, and leaving the romantic stuff until it all makes sense to him.”

Neighbours will air the Tanaka twins’ first scenes on Wednesday, September 21 in the UK on Channel 5.
