Michael B Jordan’s Vanity Fair shoot sparks angry homophobic backlash

By Ben Kelly

A photograph of actor Michael B Jordan and the director Ryan Coogler taken by Vanity Fair has drawn homophobic criticism online.

The pair, who worked together on Fruitvale Station and Creed, were photographed together with Jordan’s hand resting on Coogler’s head.

Despite the fact that neither man is gay, the photograph has certainly sparked a fiery, and interesting debate.

People took issue with the photo when it was posted by online entertainment site lovebscott.com on their Facebook page, where thousands have engaged with the image. Hundreds of comments point out the homoerotic tone of the image, to which they have taken offence.

However, other users protested the photograph’s innocence, calling out internalised issues among those who have taken offence.
