Melissa McCarthy has said it would be ‘awfully fun’ to star as Ursula in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid.

Speculation about who will be playing the sea-witch in the upcoming live-action remake on the animated Disney classic has been circulating since the film was announced.

Many LGBTQ fans are hoping Disney will give the role to RuPaul’s Drag Race star Ginger Minj but other names thrown into the pot include Melissa McCarthy.

And while speaking to Jimmy Kimmel, the Bridesmaid actress opened up about the possibility of playing the role and teased: “I hadn’t heard about that. It seems like it would be an awfully fun thing to do.

“I’d love it if Disney gave me a little ringy dingy. We’ll see.”

Kimmel then added: “If that were to happen, that would be fun.”

“If it did [happen], it would be very wonderful, Disney,” the actress continued.

Not much is known about the live-action remake, but we do know Halle Bailey will be playing the main character Ariel. Berry is best known as one half of R&B duo Chloe x Halle with her sister, Chloe.

Room star Jacob Tremblay and Crazy Rich Asians actress and comic Awkwafina have also been cast to play Flounder and Scuttle respectively.

Other casting speculations include Javier Bardem as King Triton and Harry Styles as Prince Eric.
