Mel B plotting comeback with a ‘killer pop record’?
By Josh Haggis
Mel B is reportedly plotting a pop comeback.
The former Spice Girl has joined the judging panel for this year’s X Factor, which begins on ITV next month (August), and is said to have her eyes on one of the coveted performance slots during the live shows later this year.
“She’s spent the past few weeks in the studio working on tracks and wants to make a big impact with a killer pop record for when X Factor goes live,” an ‘insider’ apparently told The Sun.
The ‘insider’ then added: “She knows Simon Cowell will feel forced to give her a performance on one of the Sunday shows. She wants to be out there in the music world once again. She hopes it will lead to a proper record deal.”
Mel B has released two solo albums to date, and although neither was hugely successful, she did manage to notch up five UK top 20 hits between 1998 and 2001 – including the Number One smash Hot, featuring rapper Missy Elliot.
She attempted a comeback last year with her dance banger For Once In My Life, which topped the US dance charts, but failed to make an impression on the UK Top 40.
Our contributor Martyn Hett recently argued that Mel B will be the saviour of this year’s X Factor – click here to find out why he thinks the Leeds diva is so amazing.
