EastEnders
favourite Martin Fowler is to return to Albert Square – played by a new actor.
Martin Fowler, the son of Pauline and Arthur, was previously played by Jon Peyton Price between 1985 and 1996, and then by James Alexandrou from 1996 to 2007.
He will now be played by up-and-coming actor James Bye, who is pictured below.
Martin Fowler will return to Albert Square later this year, in a bid to save his troubled marriage to Sonia (Natalie Cassidy).
“It’s a huge opportunity for me to put my own stamp on an iconic character and I can’t wait to get started,” said Bye in a press release, adding that it is “an honour” to be joining the cast of the long-running soap.
Meanwhile, EastEnders‘ executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins revealed that James Alexandrou had been consulted before the role of Martin Fowler was recast by the soap.
“With James Alexandrou’s blessing – something which was very important to us – we have recast everyman Martin Fowler after extensive auditions,” Treadwell-Collins explained. “Martin is an EastEnders original – the first baby born on the Square and part of the show’s roots – and, as we celebrate 30 years on Albert Square, it’s important to look backwards as we move forwards.”
Another new addition to the EastEnders cast, handsome market trader Kush Kazemi, has stripped down for the show’s latest trailer – watch it here.
