Madonna has paid tribute to her former protégé Nick Kamen, who died this week at the age of 59.

Kamen, who shot to fame in an 80s advert for Levi’s, died on Tuesday 4 May 2021, a family friend told the BBC.

According to multiple reports, Kamen had been battling bone marrow cancer.

“A kind, sweet human”

Addressing Kamen’s passing, Madonna – who co-wrote his hit 1986 single ‘Each Time You Break My Heart’ – said: “Its [sic] heart breaking to know you are gone. You were always such a kind, sweet human and you suffered too much.

“Hope you are happier wherever you are Nick Kamen.”

The pop icon also sang backing vocals on ‘Each Time You Break My Heart’, which was originally intended for her album True Blue.

Madonna’s sentiments follow a tribute from Culture Club singer Boy George.
