Massive congratulations are in order for Luke Evans, who’s been cast in the upcoming live-action movie version of Pinocchio.

The actor extraordinaire – who recently starred in ITV’s biggest new drama of the last five years, The Pembrokeshire Murders – will be playing a villain in the film, according to reports.

The star certainly has form for playing Disney baddies: he previously portrayed Gaston in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson.

“I cannot wait to start!”

Confirming the news on Twitter, Luke – who appeared on the cover of Attitude late last year and won the Man of the Year Attitude Award – said last week: “I cannot wait to start!!!”

His casting was first reported by Deadline. Pinocchio will be directed by Robert Zemeckis and feature Oscar-winner Tom Hanks as Geppetto.

The original animated version of Pinocchio was released in 1940 and has become a staple of the Disney canon. It was based on The Adventures of Pinocchio, a novel for children by Italian author Carlo Collodi released in 1883.

Luke’s other film roles include Dracula, Untold and Clash of the Titans.
