Listen: Janet Jackson and Missy Elliott team up for new single

By Nick Bond

With her long-awaited new album Unbreakable only a week away from release, Janet Jackson has today debuted a brand-new single for fans – and she’s drafted in a fellow R&B icon to help with proceedings.

Janet teams up with Missy Elliott for the R&B banger BURNITUP!, marking the pair’s fourth collaboration after the 2001 single Son Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You), the raunchy jam The One from Janet’s last album, Discipline, and Missy’s appearance on a Timbaland remix of Janet’s 1998 single Go Deep. It’s certainly a more dancefloor-ready track than the lead single from Unbreakable, the slow jam No Sleeep. Have a listen:

Is this guest appearance a sign that new music’s on the way from Missy, one of the most influential rappers of the past 20 years? We’re certainly ready for it – only weeks ago we assembled our list of Missy’s 10 greatest singles.

BURNITUP! will reportedly be remixed by Naughty Boy – currently riding high in the charts with his Beyonce collaboration Runnin’ – for its UK release. And, while Janet’s Unbreakable World Tour has so far missed out on the UK and Europe while extensively focusing on North America, we’re hearing whispers that Janet (Miss Jackson if yo’ nasty) is set to announce 2016 dates very soon. Hold tight, Janet fans…
