Lady Gaga announces new single ‘Perfect Illusion’

By Will Stroude

Mother monster is back!

After years of waiting (yes, we know the jazz album happened), it looks as though Gaga is finally ready make her return to music with a brand new single.

Earlier this afternoon (August 17) the singer’s website and Instagram page were updated with a series of words reading: “LADY GAGA, NEW SINGLE, PERFECT ILLUSION, SEPTEMBER”.

Her website seems to announce a title and launch month.

Not much else has been revealed about the track itself, but rumours are circulating that it was produced by Mark Ronson – who confirmed he was working on new material with Gaga earlier this year – and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker.

Eagle-eyed fans have pointed to an Instagram post from Ronson from May, where a picture of Gaga and Parker in the studio is captioned simply with the word: “Illusion”.

More information is sure to follow, but with a lead single title and release month now set, it can’t be long before we hear what’s Gaga’s been cooking up for her eagerly anticipated fifth studio album.

Details about the follow-up to 2013’s Artpop are thin on the ground, but with  Elton John and Mark Ronson describing the American Horror Story star’s new material as “killer” and “incredible” respectively, expectations that Gaga will deliver a record to rival 2009 creative and commercial high-point The Fame Monster are high indeed.
