Josef Salvat gets meta with social media in inspired ‘modern anxiety’ video – WATCH
The bisexual singer-songwriter is back with a discombobulating new single and video.

Four years after Josef Salvat’s acclaimed debut Night Swim established him as one of Australia’s most exciting musical talents, the Sydney-born singer has returned with an inspired new single and video which tackle the pitfalls of 21st century living.
Billed as “a little anthem for accepting life’s frequent inertia and the things you can’t control”,’modern anxiety’ Salvat singing about the morning after the night before as he “scrolls himself to sleep” again.
The inspired video also addresses the overwhelming social media noise of 2019: Directed by Josef himself and designed to be watch vertically on a phone, the visual sees the ‘music video’ play out across a series of notification-filled platforms.
With nods to iconic video moments from artists including Amy Winehouse, Alanis Morisette, Coldplay, Madonna and Bjork, it’s a striking (if not slight disorientating) return from the bisexual singer-songwriter.
Discussing the track, Josef says: “Life had been getting scarier the more years that flew by. Decisions, doubts etc. I turned 28 and felt this kind of desperation to experience everything youth had to offer before it ran out (naive).
“I launched myself into this project a little too intensely. I felt like I’d become that friend, that guy on the date, that person in the background of other people’s lives who was just always ‘a bit too much’.
“This lead to a whole bunch of mental horrors in my alone moments. Thankfully It was phase and it inspired ‘alone’.”
‘modern anxiety’ is the first track to be taken from Josef’s as-yet untitled second studio album, and the artist has already teased that a second, ‘alone’, is set to be released imminently.
